Beijing Sifang Automation (Sifang) – a research and manufacturing company specialising in power automation and generation, as well as transportation systems – plans to roll out a production-ready model of its SeaFly intelligent unmanned surface vehicle (USV) by the end of 2017.
The Seafly intelligent USV is an internally funded development that began in 2014, with the first prototype, SeaFly-01, successfully completing initial trials on Nanhu Lake in the central Chinese city of Wuhan on 27 October 2016.
According to specifications provided to Jane's by Sifang, the 4.5-ton SeaFly-01 USV measures 10.25 m and 3.7 m in length and beam respectively, although this can be scaled up or down depending on the customer's requirements.
