Philippe Bensussan, the chairman and CEO of the French-based Sofradir Group, a major manufacturer of infrared (IR) detectors, told Jane’s at the recent Paris air show, “We are in good health, showing steady growth at a faster pace than the overall market”. He continued, “We have doubled our R&D spending in the past five years to bring new products and technologies to the market, including III-V materials (such as Gallium Arsenide), which we process at our new facilities in Palaiseau, close to Paris. This puts us in a stronger position to increase our market share in our legacy segments – defence, space, and industrial – while enabling us to develop innovations for new application areas that will require large volumes of detectors”.
