The chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), General Joe Dunford, has publicly acknowledged that North Korea is capable of launching what he called “a limited missile attack”.
“Kim Jong-un’s regime is tied to [the country's] nuclear programme, and what I can tell the American people today is [that] North Korea is capable of launching a limited missile attack," Gen Dunford was quoted by the US Department of Defense as saying on 22 July at the 2017 Aspen Security Forum in Colorado.
"The United States military can defend against a limited North Korean attack on Seoul, Japan, and the United States,” he pointed out, emphasising that Pyongyang’s ongoing weapon development programme remains the most immediate challenge to the security of the United States and its allies in the Asia-Pacific region.
