Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos announced that a multipurpose vessel the country is constructing for Honduras will be delivered on 6 November. The statement was made at a 12 July meeting with Honduran president Juan Orlando Hernandez, during which the two leaders visited the platform, currently under construction.
The vessel, valued at USD13.5 million, is a Short Range Logistic Support Ship (Buque de Apoyo Logístico y Cabotaje: BAL-C). It is 49 m long, has an 8.5 kt maximum speed, and transports up to 120 tonnes cargo. It is being constructed by Colombia’s state-run Corporación de Ciencia y Tecnología para el Desarrollo de la Industria Naval, Marítima y Fluvial (COTECMAR).
