South Korea cuts steel on third KSS-III submarine

South Korean shipbuilder Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) has held a steel-cutting ceremony for the country's third KSS-III submarine, the country's Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on 30 June.

The ceremony was held at HHI's Ulsan's shipyard, about 400 km south of Seoul, on the same day of the announcement. The ceremony represents HHI's first involvement in the KSS-III project. The first and second KSS-III submarines are currently being constructed by another South Korean shipbuilder, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME).
