Thales and the Brazilian Air Force's Department of Airspace Control are discussing a deal for the company's new TRAC NG S-band dual-use primary surveillance radar.
The possible deal includes fewer than 10 radars, a Thales source told Jane's. If acquired, the radars would be locally designated as LP23SST NG.
Thales' TRAC NG has been ordered by 14 civil and military customers, and the first radar's factory acceptance test is planned for January 2018. It is being unveiled at the 2017 Paris Air Show. The system ranges out to 250 n miles, and its roles include simultaneous weather and altimetry management, as well as helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicle tracking.
