Russia to resume construction of Zubr hovercraft

16 June 2017

Russia is to resume construction of the Project 12322 Zubr (Bison) large beach-assault hovercraft. Tenders have been sent to yards that have previously built or serviced the vessels, including Almaz in St Petersburg, Kherson in Khabarovsk, Theodosia in Crimea, and Yantar in Kaliningrad. They are intended to be deployed in the Black, Baltic, and Caspian seas.

The hovercraft can land heavy equipment on unprepared coasts. With a top speed of 60 kt, it can carry three main battle tanks, eight infantry fighting vehicles, or 500 troops.
