BAE Systems adds movement tracking capability to GXP software

BAE Systems has added a new software capability into its Geospatial eXploitation Products (GXP) product line. This update is aimed at reducing the burden of analysts in tracking human and vehicle movement.

The capability, called Movement Intelligence (MOVINT), includes complex multi-tracking analytics designed to follow movement and activity from video, radar, and other types of motion sensors, the company said in a statement.

"Eliminating the need for manual analysis, GXP's enhanced tracking analytics allow users to focus instead on exploring and interpreting threat activity and networks while creating actionable intelligence reporting," the company said.

In January 2017, BAE Systems completed the initial integration of MOVINT into the Tracking Analytic Software Suite (TASS) that extracts people and vehicles in the scene from video, wide area motion imagery (WAMI), and ground moving target indicator (GMTI) radar.

"We view the MOVINT intelligence capability we offer today as being a way of rapidly discovering data," Colin Kubera, product manager for GXP InMotion and MOVINT, told Jane's on 6 June.

BAE Systems is initially adding an extra level of detail for the analyst doing initial or phase one exploitation, Kubera said.

"Having this level of augmentation facilitates forensics queries and we will be able to do tripwires and alerting; that way if analysts are concerned with a certain sort of behaviour or tracks [in] a certain area they may not need to give as much attention to that particular sensor as they have [in the past] because TASS will be able to alert them," he said.

TASS is a server component that BAE Systems has integrated into GXP Xplorer and SOCET GXP, which is the company's primary exploitation client for doing track exploitation or identification.

"What track exploitation affords us is our highly efficient queries and automated processing, so rather than having analysts looking at hours on end of data we have a server doing the processing to extract tracks in near real time," Kubera added.
