Northrop Grumman's BlueWASP eases burden on radar operators

Northrop Grumman announced in May that it has been demonstrating its BlueWASP (Wide Area Situational Processor) system to the US Navy (USN).

The system is designed to improve situational awareness for radar analysts and operators, drawing their attention to developments in the sea space by providing alerts, boxes, or coloured dots.

The USN integrated the system into an undisclosed ship radar during a deployment demonstration in April. Northrop Grumman and the service compared how an analyst and operator stay aware of vessel tracks on their radar screen with and without BlueWASP.

"If you automate that through algorithms, we can very quickly help the analyst determine where they should [focus] their attention," Sean Love, director of business development for integrated intelligence solutions at Northrop Grumman, told Jane's.
