17 May 2017

A total of four Project 18280 intelligence collection vessels will be built and put into Russian naval service by 2025, according to the head of Russian naval shipbuilding.

Speaking at the launch of the second-in-class Ivan Khurs at the Severnaya Verf shipyard in St Petersburg on 16 May, Captain Vladimir Tryapichnikov announced that one example of the class will go to each Russian fleet (the Northern, Black Sea, Pacific, and Baltic), according to reports from Interfax and other Russian media organisations.

The first-of-class vessel, Yuri Ivanov , serves with the Northern Fleet. Khurs , which should be delivered to the navy in November, had been earmarked for the Pacific Fleet, but will now go to the Black Sea Fleet.
