Indra Sistemas and Thales are preparing to jointly upgrade the existing Lince battlefield management system (BMS) for the Spanish Army's main battle tank (MBT) fleet and extend its use to other vehicles.
Indra has confirmed it is already in advanced talks with the army and that a contract is expected to be signed in the next few months.
The goal is for the new BMS software to be fitted in the army's fleet of Leopard 2 tanks by 2020.
Indra won the original contract to develop the Lince system in 2010 and only completed deliveries this year. It said the system had been installed in 235 tanks and eight command versions of the General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) Pizarro armoured infantry vehicles.
