New mission computer to open up Eagle's advanced capabilities

12 May 2017

The US Air Force (USAF) is to upgrade the mission computers of its Boeing F-15C Eagle and F-15E Strike Eagle combat aircraft under a USD434.8 million contract awarded recently to the aircraft manufacturer.

The contract will see the fighter and strike variant Eagles fitted with the new Suite 9 hardware and software package that are designed to power advanced capabilities, Boeing said.

"Suite 9 is the first software release to add capability to the new Advanced Display Core Processor II computer. Programme officials say it's the world's fastest flight mission computer and capable of processing up to 87 billion instructions throughput per second," the company said in a statement.
