IDEF 2017: Deployed Taiwanese AFV laser warning receiver details emerge

Details have emerged at the IDEF 2017 defence exhibition in Istanbul of a deployed laser warning receiver (LWS) currently in service on armoured fighting vehicles (AFV) with the Republic of China Army (RoCA).

Developed by the National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST), the LWS weighs approximately 5 kg and comprises control, power, and sensor units, with the latter installed on the roof of the AFV. Capable of detecting laser designators, laser rangefinders, and beam riders, the control panel displays what laser type is detected and the direction of its source. The spectral coverage of these threats are between 0.75 and 1.7 µm; detecting beam rider emissions between 0.75 and 0.95 µm, and laser designators and rangefinders between 0.85 and 1.7 µm.
