In a sign of a closer relationship between two South China Sea rivals, Beijing is hosting a group of 20 Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) officials at the China Maritime Police Academy in Ningbo for a ten-day training programme.
The activities, which run from 4 May to 15 May, include training in "a variety of areas, including maritime expressions and communication, ship handling and boarding", according to an online report carried by China Plus, a website of the state owned broadcaster China Radio International. The training is being conducted at the invitation of the Chinese Coast Guard (CCG), said the report.
