Germany's defence procurement office (Bundesamt für Ausrüstung, Informationstechnik und Nutzung der Bundeswehr: BAAINBw) has announced a tender to replace the German Army's G36 assault rifles.
Under the programme named System Sturmgewehr Bundeswehr (SSB), the German armed forces are planning to sign a seven-year framework agreement (which could be extended) for the manufacture and delivery of around 120,000 new rifles and associated accessories worth an estimated EUR245 million (USD266 million). Part of the contract covers the provision of spare parts and repairs.
The actual number of weapons ordered in the framework agreement are to be set in the third quarter of 2020 after the new rifles have been successfully tested.
