Hughes Defense modernises Predator B for UK Protector programme

General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has partnered with Hughes Defense to introduce the HM 200 series modem, which has specialised waveforms intended to modernise and enhance security of satellite communications (SATCOM) and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) payloads for rotary-wing aircraft and the Predator B unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) in support of the UK Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Protector programme.

Production volume for rotary-wing aircraft is expected to ramp up in late 2017 Hughes Defense told Jane's on 18 April 2017.

The SATCOM system is a significant advancement in terms of size, weight, and power (SWaP), efficiency, and higher throughput, according to Rick Lober, vice-president of Hughes Defense.
