Russia's Northern Fleet first to receive newest EW systems

19 April 2017

Russia's Northern Fleet (Severnyy Flot: SF) is the first to receive the new 'Svet' and 'Samarkand' electronic warfare (EW) systems, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 15 April.

SF EW Chief of Staff Captain Valery Lukoyanov revealed that the systems already entered service early in 2017 and supplement existing 'Murmansk-BN' mobile EW systems. It is the first time such equipment has been seen at Fleet Headquarters at Severomorsk.

"The main task of the SF EW service is to increase the fleet's combat resilience. The systems have been successfully installed and are in use in most surface ships: cruisers, anti-submarine, missile vessels, and destroyers," added Commander Andrei Luzik, acting chief of the SF press service.
