France's Thales Group is seeking to expand its presence of its defence and security activities over certain Latin America countries, Ruben Lazo, the company's vice-president for Latin America (LATAM) told Jane's.
Thales employs more than 600 people across the region with operations in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela. It is eyeing regional prospects such as work on frigates intended to be acquired by Colombia; frigate construction and an air traffic management system in Mexico; frigate modernisation for Chile; Type 209 diesel-powered attack submarines modernisation and an air traffic management system in Peru; and selling coastal surveillance and urban security systems in Uruguay.
