The Thai government has approved the Royal Thai Army's (RTA's) procurement of an additional 10 VT-4 main battle tanks (MBTs) from China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO), it was announced on 4 April.
The acquisition will cost THB2 billion (USD58 million), with funding spread over three years, defence minister Prawit Wongsuwon said in a statement. A contract to support the VT-4 acquisition is expected to be signed soon.
The procurement follows Thailand's order of 28 VT-4 MBTs - the export version of NORINCO's MBT-3000 - in 2016 for about THB5 billion. Deliveries of these tanks are expected to commence towards the end of 2017.
