Colombian Air Force receives first locally developed air defence radar

03 April 2017

The Colombian Air Force on 29 March received the first Tactical Air Defence Radar (TADER) system, developed by the Colombian High Technology Corporation (CODALTEC), at the Gomez Niño Apiay Air Base, in Villavicencio.

The TADER was developed in co-operation with the Spanish Ministry of Defence and a conglomerate of Spanish companies - INDRA, ART, and IN-NOVA - under a 2014 technology transfer agreement.

The TADER comprises a 3-D pulse-Doppler X-band radar designed for air surveillance and air defence; it is able to detect aircraft flying at low altitude at a maximum range of 75 km and identification friend or foe devices.
