Raytheon looks to cyber intrusion detection system for pilots

Raytheon is funding a research and development effort to produce an Avionics Intrusion Detection System that could provide commercial and military pilots with a cyber-attack warning capability within the next year.

"What it does is look for anomalous traffic in [a] real-time operating system to [ensure that an] orderly set of instructions is going to the components," William Leigher, Raytheon director of government cyber solutions, recently told Jane's .

But when the system detects a signal that does not belong it will notify the pilot, Leigher added. "The state of the art for what we have is something akin to an early radar warning receiver," he said.
