31 March 2017

The US Army is looking at using either a High-Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) or the M113 armoured personnel carrier, as the foundation for an unmanned vehicle effort dubbed Robotic Wingman.

The Robotic Wingman is currently in the science and technology development phase, Major Mike Dvorak, from the army capabilities integration centre (ARCIC), said at the NDIA 2017 Ground Robotics Capabilities Conference, in Springfield, Virginia.

"There is a Joint Capability Technology Demonstration (JCTD) … we are waiting to see if it gets approved," he said.

The goal is to create a robotic vehicle, Maj Dvorak said, with a human in the loop, the initial focus will be on mobility, he added.
