LIMA 2017: Malaysia's MMEA takes delivery of second Ojika-class vessel from Japan

The Malaysia Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) held a naming ceremony for the second ex-Ojika-class ship donated from the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) at LIMA 2017.

On the occasion, the ex-JCG vessel Okii , now known as KM Pekan (with pennant number 9203) was formally handed over to the MMEA on 21 March in Langkawi, Malaysia.

According to Jane's Fighting Ships , KM Pekan has an overall length of about 92 m, a beam of 11 m, and a hull draught of 3.5 m. The vessel, powered by two Fuji 8S40B diesels in a propulsion system featuring 2 shafts, can reach top speeds of about 18 kt. The vessel has a helicopter deck for one aircraft of the size of Bell 212 or Super Puma.

The event, which celebrated the 60th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, was attended by the Malaysian Prime Minister, Najib Razak, and by a Japanese government official.
