Rafael develops missile launcher for light helicopters

21 March 2017

A new missile launcher for light helicopters has been developed by Israel's Rafael Advanced Defense Systems.

Known so far only as the Light Helicopter Launcher, the system carries two missiles and weighs just 27 kg compared to the 55 kg of Rafael's current four-missile launcher.

Speaking to Jane's at Rafael's Leshem facility, the company's marketing manager for precision tactical weapon systems, Gal Papier, said, "We saw a requirement internationally for a launcher for light helicopters, for example the H145 from Airbus, the [Airbus AS550] Fennec, the Bell 407, or the Indian ALH. This is a very strong requirement that we are seeing from customers today."
