Spain is donating two patrol boats to Guinea-Bissau to help the West African nation monitor its coastal waters.
The first vessel, M08, left Spain in late February 2017 aboard the Guardia Civil police maritime service (SEMAR)-operated Rio Tajo transport vessel with a team of Guardia Civil instructors who will be training local crews from Guinea-Bissau's national guard. The second vessel, M13, is scheduled to be shipped out aboard the same transport vessel. Both patrol boats were previously stationed on Spain's Atlantic-facing northern coast.
The vessels were manufactured in the northwestern region of Galicia by Spanish shipbuilder Rodman Polyships as their 55M model and were previously used by the paramilitary SEMAR, where they were known as the Baltico class.
