US nuclear review to provide options for Russia's INF Treaty compliance

The Pentagon's ongoing Nuclear Posture Review (NPR) will consider how to address Russia's reported violation of deal barring intermediate-range weapons, among wider US nuclear strategy.

"We've been asked to include a set of options" into the NPR to respond to Russia violating 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) Treaty, US Air Force General Paul Selva, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told Congress on 8 March.

Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis in January was directed to begin an NPR to report on the US nuclear deterrent, which is common for an incoming administration.
