Canada extends military mission in Ukraine

08 March 2017

The Canadian government announced on 6 March that it will extend its military training mission in Ukraine until the end of March 2019.

The Canadian Armed Forces (CAF), under Operation 'UNIFIER', has provided military training and capacity building to help maintain stability, security, and sovereignty in Ukraine since 2014. To date, the Canadian government has provided more than CAD700 million (USD373 million) in developmental, financial, and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. It has also provided CAD16 million in non-lethal military equipment. The deployment will continue to involve about 200 CAF personnel.

Specific training efforts have been developed to improve the Ukrainian forces' small team operations, explosive ordinance disposal (EOD), military policing, medical training, and modernisation of logistics systems.
