Bahamas commissions new HMBS Kamalamee

01 March 2017

The Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF) commissioned HMBS Kamalamee during a ceremony at Coral Harbour Base on 24 February. Kamalamee is a Stan Patrol 3007 produced by Dutch shipyard Damen Shipbuilding Company.

A 27 February RBDF statement said this is the third of four similar platforms acquired from Damen, and that eight of nine vessels procured under the 'Sandy Bottom' Project have now been delivered. The last vessel is scheduled to arrive this year.

'Sandy Bottom' Project aims to upgrade the RBDF's platforms and facilities particularly for its maritime surveillance and security missions. Besides the platforms, the project also includes improving "port facilities at Coral Harbour, New Providence Island, Matthew Town, Inagua Island, and Gunpoint Ragged Island; and the development of bases at Coral Harbour, Matthew Town, and Gunpoint", the RBDF explained.
