Fincantieri Marinette Marine (FMM) has announced a contract for two additional Response Boat – Medium (RB-M) vessels by the US Coast Guard.
The two boats are part of a Foreign Military Sale to Jordan; delivery is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2017. This award brings to 176 the total number of RB-Ms built by Team RB-M, originally formed by FMM and Kvichak Marine, now Vigor.
FMM will act as the prime contractor and programme manager.
The new boats will be upgraded for the Jordanian Navy’s specific mission requirements and will be constructed by Vigor at its Ballard, Washington facilities.
“Fincantieri Marinette Marine and Vigor take great pride in supplying the RB-M. The proven track record, performance and flexibility make it an excellent platform for near shore security,” said Jan Allman, president and CEO of FMM. “We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with the US Coast Guard, and developing a new partnership with Jordan.” Vigor (Stand C-017) will be displaying the RB-M Vigilant (pictured) at the NAVDEX marina.
Designed by Camarc Design, UK, the RB-M is a 13.6m (45ft) all aluminium self-righting patrol boat utilised by the US Coast Guard for a broad range of missions including homeland security and search and rescue. Powered by twin Detroit Diesel 60 series diesel engines coupled to Twin Disc MG5114SC marine gears with Rolls-Royce Kamewa waterjets and Vector controls, the RB-M is capable of speeds in excess of 45 knots. A full cabin provides crew protection from the elements and is equipped with a robust navigation system, heating and air-conditioning, shock-mitigating seats and a communication system able to communicate with other federal, state and local homeland security partners.
Vigilant has been modified for the extreme weather conditions found in the Arabian Gulf, where it has been conducting a series of demonstrations.
