Indian Navy Il-38SD MPA successfully fires Kh-35 anti-ship missile

13 February 2017

An Indian Navy (IN) Ilyushin Il-38SD maritime patrol aircraft (MPA) has fired a Russian-built Kh-35 radar-guided anti-ship missile against a target ship in a demonstration of its long-range sea denial capability, IN spokesperson Captain D K Sharma announced on 8 February.

The successful 'maiden' operational firing was carried out in the Arabian Sea during the IN's "Theatre Readiness and Operational Exercise' (TROPEX) 2017.

The Indian Naval Air Squadron (INAS) 315 in Goa operates five Il-38SD aircraft.

The Kh-35 was first test-fired from an Il-38SD in April 2005.
