Brazil and Portugal seek deeper defence industrial co-operation

12 February 2017

Brazilian defence minister Raul Jungmann met his Portuguese counterpart, José Alberto Azeredo Lopes, on 9 February as part of the first joint Brazilian-Portuguese Defence Industry Dialogue, a two-day event held in Porto with the aim of increasing industrial co-operation between the two states.

The event was expected to be attended by 20 companies from Brazil as well as 40 Portuguese businesses, and will facilitate the signing of a memorandum of understanding on joint recognition on the classification of military products.

As well as sharing a common language, military relations between Brazil and Portugal have begun to develop in recent years thanks to their partnership on Embraer's KC-390 transport aircraft programme.
