USN seeks to come up to speed with electric weapons, DEWs

US Navy (USN) leadership is investigating how quickly electronic weapons and lasers can be fielded, and the US Naval Surface Warfare Center in Dahlgren, Virginia, (NSWCDD) briefed Chief of Naval Operations Admiral John Richardson on electric weapons and cyber security.

Adm Richardson's briefing was meant to better understand the science and engineering challenges involved with integrating emerging technology into existing and future platforms.

"I'm interested in finding out where our navy is on the cutting edge of some really critical technologies," Adm Richardson said during an 'All Hands' address at NSWCDD on 18 January 2017.
