Romania has ordered another batch of Piranha III 8x8 wheeled armoured vehicles, General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) announced on 26 January.
The contract, worth RON187.8 million (USD44.8 million), covers 12 specialised Piranha III variants, including mobile command posts, medevac vehicles, chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) vehicles, recovery vehicles, and mortar carriers.
According to GDELS, this is the fifth batch of the vehicles ordered by Romania. Ten vehicles were delivered in 2008, seven in 2010, seven in 2012, and seven in 2015.
All vehicles will be used by the 26th Infantry Battalion ('Red Scorpions') of the 2nd Infantry Brigade 'Rovine', based in Craiova.
