India, UAE sign defence MoU accord

India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have signed an agreement to expand defence manufacturing and technology collaboration, it was announced on 25 January.

The memorandum of understanding (MoU) on "co-operation in the field of defence industry" was signed during the visit to India by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The MoU was signed just a few days after the two countries held their first defence dialogue, which focused on exploring areas of potential trade.

India's Ministry of External Affairs said in a statement that the newly signed MoU aims to establish co-operation in defence manufacturing and technology and will facilitate activities including studies, research, development, innovation, and co-operation between public and private sector institutions of the two countries.
