L3 KEO is expected to complete testing on its MK 20 MOD 1 electro-optical (EO) sensor system by August 2017, a company official said during the annual Surface Navy Association (SNA) symposium held 10-12 January in Washington, DC.
The system, which replaces the MK 20 MOD 0 is undergoing qualification and environmental testing, which includes the ability to maintain operations after taking a direct shot.
The current MOD 0 is Military Specification 901D (MIL-S-901D) Grade B capable which is for high-impact mechanical shock. Grade B systems are not essential to ship safety or combat capability but could become hazardous to a ship's personnel.
