Surface Navy 2017: Lockheed Martin wins contract for AOEW active payload development

The US Navy (USN) has selected Lockheed Martin's Rotary and Mission Systems business to develop a new helicopter-borne podded electronic warfare (EW) payload for co-ordinated anti-ship missile defence (ASMD).

Known as the Advanced Offboard Electronic Warfare (AOEW) Active Mission Payload (AMP), the programme is intended to deliver a new, long-endurance, offboard countermeasures capability "for use in next-generation co-ordinated EW missions against current and future anti-ship missile threats," according to Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA).
