North Korea to continue to enhance nuclear capabilities, says Kim Jong-un

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un announced in his New Year's Day address that his country will continue to enhance its military capabilities, including the development of nuclear weapons.

"We will continue to build up our self-defence capability, the pivot of which is the nuclear forces, and the capability for pre-emptive strike as long as the United States and its vassal forces keep on nuclear threat and blackmail and as long as they do not stop the war games they stage at our doorstep disguising them as annual events," the Rodong Sinmun newspaper - a daily of the North Korea's ruling Workers' Party - quoted Kim as saying on 1 January.
