India signs deal for 145 M777 howitzers

India signed a deal with the United States on 30 November for the procurement of 145 BAE Systems M777A2 155mm/39 calibre lightweight howitzers being acquired under the US Foreign Military Sales programme.

Indian Ministry of Defence officials said the delivery of 25 towed M777s in completed form will begin in May 2017. The remaining 120 guns will be built at the BAE Systems-Mahindra Assembly, Integration, and Testing facility being readied near New Delhi.
