Rheinmetall Landsysteme displayed its Marder Medium Tank Republic of Indonesia (RI) at Indo Defence 2016.
The demonstrator has been developed to meet an Indonesian requirement and the vehicle shown at Indo Defence 2016 is fitted with a Leonardo (formerly Oto Melara) HITFACT II turret.
Rheinmetall Landsysteme used internal research and development funding to develop an enhanced version of the Marder 1 for the export market. This this was shown in the armoured personnel carrier configuration at Indo Defence 2014 fitted with a Kongsberg Protector remote weapon station armed with a stabilised .50 calibre M2 HB MG.
The significant improvements for the latest export Marder are a raised roofline to provide greater internal volume, an upgraded MTU diesel engine, which now develops 690hp, an upgraded suspension for improved mobility, and a modular passive-armour package.
