Pretoria-based Airbus DS Optronics, part of the German parent and part-owned by Denel, is bidding farewell to long-standing chief executive Kobus Viljoen.
He is replaced by Jan Wessels, previously chief operating officer of Denel in Pretoria, and current chief executive of LMT Holdings, in which the Denel Group has a majority shareholding. He will hand over the reins to Wessels at the end of September. Over the past nine years, Viljoen returned the Carl Zeiss Optronics subsidiary to profitability, with revenues now trebled in 2016.
Under his guidance, the local firm stands third among 36 Carl Zeiss facilities worldwide in the Lean Manufacturing audit.
