Insitu (Hall 5, Stand B577) has been awarded the LRIP Lot V contract by Naval Air Systems Command for RQ-21A Blackjack. The $71 million follow-on contract award includes six LRIP systems with options for two further systems.
It also includes an option year for nine full rate production (FRP) systems. The FRP decision is expected this autumn. RQ-21A has greater payload mass, volume and power than other small UAS currently used in theatre. The system includes electro-optic and mid-wave infrared sensors with a laser rangefinder and infrared marker.
Insitu also announced plans to phase in a dramatically enhanced turret that increases the aircraft’s stand-off range.
The turret includes four sensors that will provide both an EO and IR telescope for high-zoom imaging as well as standard EO and IR cameras for situational awareness.
