Raul Belens Jungmann Pinto has been appointed as new Brazilian minister of defence, replacing José Aldo Rebelo Figueiredo who was in the post since October 2015.
Raul Jungmann has been serving as a federal deputy for the Pernambuco State branch of the Popular Socialist Party (PPS).
The appointment was announced on 12 May by the country's Interim President Michel Miguel Elias Temer Lulia (until now vice-president and until last April head of the Brazilian Democratic Movement Party), and comes the same day as Dilma Vana Rousseff was suspended from Brazil's presidency for up to 180 days due to an impeachment process over accusations that she manipulated government accounts.
