His Majesty King Abdullah II, Commander of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF), yesterday inaugurated the 11th Special Operations Forces Exhibition (SOFEX) 2016.
The King was received by His Royal Highness Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, President of the SOFEX Supreme Steering Committee, King’s Military Advisor and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs-of-Staff General Mashal Al-Zaben, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the King Abdullah Design and Development Bureau (KADDB) Atef Al Tal, and SOFEX managing director Amer Tabbah.
Upon His Majesty’s arrival, an artillery unit fired a 21-gun salute to welcome King Abdullah and the national anthem was played.
This year’s exhibition, which coincides with the Kingdom’s celebrations of the centenary of the Great Arab Revolt, is the world’s leading event in the field of special operations and homeland security in the Middle East and North Africa. During the three-day fair, more than 380 companies from 37 countries will showcase the latest equipment used by peacekeeping forces and in special operations related to homeland security.
The opening ceremony was attended by a number of their Royal Highnesses, Prime Minister and Defence Minister Abdullah Ensour, Senate President, Lower House Speaker, President of the Judicial Council, Royal Court Chief, King’s Office Director, King’s Advisor, a number of ministers, and heads of security departments.
Also attending were the heads of delegations visiting from different nations, ambassadors and military attachés, heads of diplomatic missions accredited in the Kingdom, as well as a number of senior military and civic officials.
In his speech, SOFEX managing director Amer Tabbah said that this year’s exhibition is particularly significant, because the Kingdom is celebrating the centenary of the Great Arab Revolt, which was courageously undertaken by Hussein bin Ali, Sharif of Mecca, to establish an independent and unified Arab State.
