ELCAN Optical Technologies, a division of Raytheon (Hall 6, Stand C662) is to supply its Specter DR 1-4x dual-role weapon sight to Australia’s Department of Defence. The $54 million contract award followed an open competition and deliveries will start later this year.
The Specter dual field-of-view (1x and 4x) sight will replace the Australian Defence Forces’ standard 1.5x magnified sight on the new Enhanced F88 rifle in the Land 125 Phase 3C programme. Its dual magnification provides both long-range targeting and short-range rapid aiming in a single package. The sight has an easy-to-use lever that allows a shooter to switch instantly from 1x to 4x magnification without having to fine-tune or adjust focus for either setting.
Designed with combat operation the prime consideration, the sight includes a sealed, hardened optical housing that delivers rugged, reliable performance in unpredictable mission conditions.
The Specter’s crystal-clear optics, durability, reliable performance and generous 70mm eye relief and wide viewing angle are said to make it popular within the special operations community.
