Pentagon budget 2017: Though under protest, USD735 million requested for JLTV

09 February 2016

The US Army's Joint Light Tactical Vehicle (JLTV) would receive USD735.4 million in the fiscal year 2017 (FY 2017) budget request.

Oshkosh's Light Combat Tactical All-Terrain Vehicle won the JLTV competition, besting submissions from AM General and Lockheed Martin, but the decision is being contested in US federal court. JLTV should be kicking off with contractor Oshkosh Defense entering low-rate initial production (LRIP) - scheduled to begin in the first quarter of FY 2016 - but a bid protest by Lockheed Martin has escalated to the US Court of Federal Claims, and this could stall the effort.

Nonetheless, the Pentagon has requested USD587.5 million to procure 1,828 JLTVs for the army and USD113.2 million to procure 192 for the US Marine Corps (USMC). About USD34.7 million was requested for research and development between the army and USMC's JLTV programmes.
