India expands defence collaboration with Malaysia and Singapore

24 November 2015

India has agreed to expand defence industrial co-operation with Malaysia and Singapore. The accords were announced during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's four-day visit to Southeast Asia, which concluded on 24 November.

During Modi's visit to Malaysia he pledged to enhance defence ties across a range of activities including a forum through which the two countries will collaborate on training, maintenance, and technologies to support Sukhoi Su-30 multirole fighter aircraft, versions of which both countries' air forces operate.

Following meetings with Malaysian prime minister Najib Tun Razak, Modi said that enhanced defence ties would include the setting up of the "Su-30 forum" as well as closer collaboration in military exercises, training, and developing defence equipment.
