It has emerged that Russian state import/export agency Rosoboronexport signed a contract in 2014 to supply 200 T-90 main battle tanks (MBTs) in kit form to Algeria. The contract was reported by Russian media on 20 February, quoting business sources in the military-industrial complex. Assembly of the tanks will be carried out at a facility that previously repaired Algerian Army armoured fighting vehicles (AFVs).
According to Mikhail Barabanov, editor of the Moscow Defense Brief , the value of the contract could reach USD1 billion. Barabanov said he thinks the contract is one of the largest ever concluded for the delivery of MBTs.
