Cobham, Tata agree aerial refuelling manufacturing deal

17 July 2014

Tata Advanced Systems (TASL), a subsidiary of Indian conglomerate Tata, has entered a collaboration agreement with UK defence and aerospace group Cobham to manufacture aerial refuelling equipment in India.

The companies said, in a joint statement on 17 July, that the agreement enables TASL to manufacture metallic structures for Cobham products at TASL's facility in Hyderabad.

Cobham manufactures a range of aerial refuelling equipment, including pods integrated onto the Airbus A330 Multirole Tanker Transport, a platform that India ordered in 2013.

A TASL spokesperson told IHS Jane's that the company would produce air-refuelling pod structures for a range of end users including India and that TASL is scheduled to commence production of the structures in August, with first units complete by January 2015.
