OSINT Summary: Pakistani security forces detain senior TTP commander

16 July 2014

Unidentified Pakistani security officials stated that senior Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) commander Adnan Rasheed had been captured, along with three other suspected militants, at his family residence in the town of Wana, South Waziristan, in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) on 11 July. Rasheed had fled to the area from North Waziristan after being wounded by army forces during a large-scale ongoing offensive in North Waziristan - codenamed Operation Zarb-e-Azb ('sharp and cutting strike' in Urdu) - that was launched on 15 June. The TTP confirmed Rasheed's arrest in a statement released on 16 July.
