Giordani was replaced by Ricardo Menendez, who will now serve as Vice-President of Planning and Territorial Development, and will oversee the absorption of the former Ministry of Planning into the new Vice-Presidency of Planning and Territorial Development.

Giordani has lost significant influence since the death of former president Hugo Chávez in March 2013. He was removed from his post as Minister of Finance in April 2013 and recent changes in the Central Bank in May also led to the early retirement of two members of the board considered to be close to him.
